Basic Function:

This is routine and repetitive manual work calling for the efficient and economical performance of building cleaning and occasional minor maintenance tasks. Cleaning tasks are performed according to a well-established procedure, and maintenance tasks are performed under direct supervision or according to specific instructions. Supervision is received from a custodian or other superior. Supervision over the work of others is not a responsibility of employees in this class.  Does related work as required.

Responsibilities:

1. Sweeps and mops floors and stairs.
2. Dusts desks, woodwork, furniture and other equipment.
3. Washes windows, walls, blackboards, sinks and other fixtures.
4. Polishes furniture and metal furnishings.
5. Empties waste baskets, collects and disposes of rubbish.
6. Clears snow and ice from walks.
7. May mow lawns, trim shrubs, rake leaves and perform a variety of other groundskeeping tasks as assigned.
8. Assists in the cleaning of rugs and tile flooring using machines specially designed for cleaning of such surfaces.
9. Delivers packages and messages.
10. Places and removes traffic safety signs.
11. Arranges chairs and tables and other equipment for special use of administration building.
12. Repairs window shades, replaces light bulbs, soap and towels.
13. Paints rooms and equipment and assists in making minor plumbing, carpentry, and electrical repairs.
14. Working knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies and equipment.
15. Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions.
16. Willingness to perform routine cleaning and other manual tasks.

Substitute Coordination Service Clerk (BOCES)2024-64A5

Location:     Management Services - 900 Watervliet Shaker Road

Basic Function:

Performs a variety of routine clerical procedures to support the Substitute Coordination Service of a BOCES. Employees in this class are trained to do specific duties to fulfill the needs of the school districts that participate in the Substitute Coordination Service. The work is performed under direct supervision during training. Employees receive detailed instructions and close supervision at the beginning of their employment and subsequent to new assignments. The Substitute Coordination Services Clerk (BOCES) position may be an entry-level position for advancement to higher level and specialized functional responsibilities within an operating agency. Does related work as required.

Responsibilities:

1. Sort, indexes files documents such as substitute files, assignment histories, identifying records and invoices alphabetically, numerically, chronologically and by other predetermined categories.
2. Operates a computer to enter or retrieve data and /or historical information from computerized substitute coordination system.
3. Makes routine clerical checks in processing the mail, vendor bills, substitute employee tax forms, demographic information updates, police reports, and attendance reports.
4. Maintains alphabetic, numeric and chronological files of documents and materials by coding and filing new material, searching for requested material and periodically purging obsolete material in substitute coordination employee systems.
5. Operates a variety of office equipment including a computer, copier machine, mailers, check signers, posting machine or switchboard as an incidental part of the clerical work performed.
6. Communicates with school districts via telephone and email to receive and record complaints and inquiries regarding the substitute coordination service, which are directed to the proper authority for necessary action.
7. May maintain records on assignments worked, pay rates, and makes routine entries on various substitute coordination service records.
8. Logs in mail and information necessary for the proper conduct of the substitute coordination service as well as to form a basis for activity reports.
9. Working knowledge of business arithmetic and English.
10. Working knowledge of office terminology, procedures and equipment.
11. Ability to operate a computer to enter, store and retrieve information and data.

Building Maintenance Helper2024-231A2

LOCATION:    Central Adminstration - TBD

BASIC FUNCTION:    An employee in this class does unskilled manual work in performing a variety of tasks connected with the operation, maintenance and cleaning of buildings and facilities maintenance.  Miscellaneous minor repair work may be performed, but it does not require the same degree of proficiency and ability as that called for in the semi-skilled position of Building Maintenance Mechanic. General directions are received in connection with each assignment and supervision is received while work is in process and upon completion. Does related work as required.


RESPONSIBILITIES:    
1.    Assists in a variety of tasks in regard to the upkeep of buildings, grounds and equipment.
2.    Takes part in painting of rooms and hallways.
3.    Performs minor carpentry work such as repairs to desks, tables and office furniture.
4.    Prepares surfaces for painting by scraping, sanding, washing and applying paint and varnish remover.
5.    Assists in the maintenance of grounds by mowing lawns and athletic fields, trimming shrubbery and taking care of flower beds.
6.    Replaces defective fuses and light bulbs.
7.    Helps to clean and maintain tools, machinery and other mechanical equipment.
8.    Assists in removing snow and ice from walks, parking lots and pathways.

Basic Function:   Assists in the preparation and service of food and in the cleaning of kitchen equipment. This is routine manual work performed under immediate supervision in connection with the preparation and service of food. On occasion Food Service Helpers may perform cooking duties involving lesser degrees of skill than regularly required of employees in the classification of Cook.  Does related work as required.

2. Fills sugar bowls and salt and pepper shakers.
3. Works on the tray lines serving designated portions per menus.
4. Fills food carts and delivers foods to designated areas.

Educational Interpreter (Anticipated)(FT/10M Position)(3P)2024-252

Location:     Special Education – Various Locations

Basic Function:

The work involves facilitating the translation of verbal communication for Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing students.   An incumbent is responsible for interpreting presentations, instructions, and assignments in a variety of settings, both sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign.  Direct supervision is received from the assigned school district or BOCES supervisor.  Does related work as required.

Responsibilities:

1. Receives verbal communication and interprets for students who are deaf/hard-of-hearing.
2. Receives sign language communication from students who are deaf/hard-of-hearing.
3. Provides fluent American Sign Language interpretation for seminars, classes, examinations, meetings, conferences, etc.
4. Thorough knowledge of American Sign Language.
5. Thorough knowledge of the English language.
6. Good knowledge of the communication problems confronting the deaf/hard-of-hearing population within mainstream environments.
7. Skill in sign language.
8. Skill in receptive, expressive, and reverse interpreting.
9. Ability to facilitate the successful completion of the communication process for students who are deaf/hard-of-hearing.
