Job Description

LOCATION:           Adult Health Careers Program - 925B Watervliet-Shaker Road

BASIC FUNCTION:

This is a professional position that involves the coordination of all clinical aspects of the adult and secondary Health Careers & Services Programs at Capital Region BOCES. The incumbent will work collaboratively with the CTE administrative team and will have full responsibility for planning, scheduling, and execution of the clinical aspects of the Health Careers and Services programming, including but not limited to the Practical Nursing program. The work is performed under the direct supervision of the Health Careers & Services Supervisor. The incumbent exercises direct supervision of clinical instructors and directly coordinates and oversees the students of the Health Careers & Services Programs during the clinical and simulation rotations required in their respective programs. Does related work as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Responsible for planning, scheduling, tracking and executing all clinical aspects of the Health Careers & Services programming including but not limited to SIMS lab, skills lab and coordination of required clinical rotations.
  2. Communicates effectively with Health Careers & Services Supervisor to understand clinical requirements and implement SIMS lab curriculum and clinical objectives.
  3. Maintains the appropriate student records from admission and throughout program as it pertains to clinical requirements for student attendance, grades, skill performance, anecdotal records, clinical schedules and clinical instructional resources.
  4. Develops schedule for clinical instructors in collaboration with the Health Careers & Services Supervisor;
  5. Coordinates the scheduling of clinical instructor substitutes for adult and secondary health careers programs, in collaboration with the Health Careers & Services Supervisor.
  6. Directly supervises and evaluates each teacher’s performance in the clinical area.
  7. Evaluates applicant and student records for compliance and validity of all clinical site requirements such as physicals, immunization records, medical documentation, CPR certification and CNA certifications.
  8. Collaborates with Health Careers & Services Supervisor to align clinical experiences to objectives in the classroom-based curriculum.
  9. Oversees facility orientation for students and instructors for each of the clinical rotations.
  10. Collaborates with Regional Test Sites to schedule and oversee testing and scheduling of eligible students.
  11. Organizes and conducts orientations, and regular meetings with clinical staff in collaboration with Health Careers & Services Supervisor.
  12. Organizes professional development opportunities for clinical staff in collaboration with Health Careers & Services Supervisor;
  13. Plans and executes programs to enhance orientations and retention of students in collaboration with Health Careers & Services Supervisor;
  14. Plans and executes programs to enhance student skills remediation in collaboration with Health Careers & Services Supervisor;
  15. Participates in all aspects of Health Careers & Services Program, such as committees and professional meetings;
  16. Meets with health agencies to coordinate student clinical experiences in collaboration with director;
  17. Performs related duties as required.
  18. Good knowledge of modern principles and practices of health care programs and services;
  19. Good knowledge of database management;
  20. Working knowledge of federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations applicable to Health Careers & Services programming;
  21. Ability to supervise and evaluate the work of others;
  22. Ability to coordinate multiple class and work schedules;
  23. Ability to work effectively with both professional and non-professional personnel;
  24. Ability to prepare reports and maintain records;
  25. Initiative and resourcefulness.

Job Qualifications
  1. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or closely related field, and four (4) years of experience as a Registered Professional Nurse, which shall have included (1) year experience in staff development or nursing education.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must possess and maintain a license as a Registered Nurse as issued by New York State. 
  2. Possession of a CPR certification at a time of appointment and throughout employment.

The selected applicant will be subject to a fingerprint-supported criminal history background check in accordance with SAVE Legislation effective July 1, 2001.

Vacancies are filled by a certified list provided by Albany County Civil Service. Should no certified list be available, candidates appointed to this position will be serving in a provisional appointment in accordance with New York State Civil Service Law. The candidate must successfully complete a competitive examination and be eligible for appointment in accordance with Civil Service Law and the Civil Service Rules for Albany County to obtain a permanent appointment.

SALARY will be in accordance with contract language, commensurate with relevant experience and prorated to amount of service rendered.
