Location: Educational Support Services - 900 Watervliet Shaker Road
Basic Function:
This is routine work involving responsibility for the safe and prompt delivery of mail, documents, and related materials between county departments, school officers, banks and post office. Work is performed under general supervision in accordance with specific oral or written directions. Does related work as required.
Responsibilities:
1. Picks up daily mail and communications for delivery to various administration offices and buildings. 2. Runs errands and performs other general messenger work. 3. Delivers materials and supplies from office to office. 4. Receives, sorts and distributes mail. 5. Delivers bank deposits. 6. Performs simple miscellaneous clerical work.
A. Working knowledge of office procedures and practices. B. Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions. C. Knowledge of geography of the area. D. Willingness to learn and perform tasks assigned. E. Clerical aptitude; mental alertness. F. Trustworthiness, tact and courtesy. G. Good physical condition.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Must have a valid NYS Motor Vehicle License.
The selected applicant will be subject to a fingerprint supported criminal history background check in accordance with SAVE Legislation effective July 1, 2001.
Vacancies are filled by certified list provided by Albany County Civil Service. Should no certified list be available, candidates appointed to this position will be serving in a provisional appointment in accordance with New York State Civil Service Law. The candidate must successfully complete a competitive examination and be eligible for appointment in accordance with Civil Service Law and the Civil Service Rules for Albany County to obtain a permanent appointment.
SALARY: BOCES employee salary commensurate with experience and in accordance with contract language.
