Job Description

LOCATION:            Career & Technical Education – Adult Health Careers Program

BASIC FUNCTION:           

This is a professional position that involves leadership and oversight of staff and daily student activities within the Health Careers and Services Program at the Capital Region BOCES Career & Technical School. The incumbent will work collaboratively as a member of the CTE administrative team and will lead and supervise the secondary and post-secondary Health Careers programs and services. Direct supervision is exercised over the Health Careers teachers and support staff. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Director-Health Careers & Services. Does related work as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Directly supervises and evaluates Adult Health Careers teachers and support staff.
  2. Leads and is responsible for curriculum, clinical rotations and scheduling of Adult Health Careers programs.
  3. Oversees clinical rotations and scheduling for secondary Health Careers & Services program, in collaboration with the director.
  4. Utilizes data to assess the effectiveness of staffing patterns, scheduling and organizational structures in attaining desired student outcomes, in collaboration with the director.
  5. Oversees learning management system and student management system.
  6. Is responsible for all aspects of student management by working with other administrators, teachers and support personnel on all student discipline.
  7. Analyzes student attendance data and counsels students as required.
  8. Develops calendar, schedule, syllabus and lesson plan creation for all Adult Health Careers & Services programs, in collaboration with the director.
  9. Oversees SIMS lab, curriculum, scheduling and rotations for all Adult Health Careers & Services programs, in collaboration with the director.
  10. Coordinates the scheduling of substitutes for both classroom and clinical needs.
  11. Organizes and conducts regular meetings with clinical staff.
  12. Establishes examination schedule for applicable Adult Health Careers & Services programs.
  13. Prepares reports and associated documentation to comply with various state and federal regulatory requirements and monitoring.
  14. Is responsible for planning and executing professional development opportunities.
  15. Serves as primary subject matter expert to Adult Health Careers & Services instructional staff for curriculum and program based questions and requirements.
  16. Performs related duties as required.
  17. Good knowledge of federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations applicable to Adult Health Careers & Services programming.
  18. Good knowledge of modern principles and practices of health care programs and services.
  19. Good knowledge of database management.
  20. Ability to supervise and evaluate the work of others.
  21. Ability to coordinate class and work schedules.
  22. Ability to work effectively with both professional and non-professional personnel.
  23. Ability to prepare reports and maintain records.
  24. Initiative and resourcefulness.

Job Qualifications
  1. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree in Nursing or closely related field; and
  2. Five (5) years of experience as a Registered Professional Nurse, which shall have included one (1) year of experience in staff development or nursing education.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: 

  1. Must possess and maintain a license as a registered nurse as issued by New York State.
  2. Possession of a CPR Certification at the time of appointment and throughout employment.

The selected applicant will be subject to a fingerprint supported criminal history background check in accordance with SAVE Legislation effective July 1, 2001.

Candidates will not have to take an exam for this title. This is a NY HELPS (Hiring Emergency Limited Placement Statewide) Program designated title. NY HELPS is a temporary program designed to help local government employers address current staffing issues. Traditionally, the titles filled under the NY HELPS Program required job candidates to compete in a competitive exam to be considered for employment. For the duration of the program, this title will be classified as non-competitive and categorized as a HELPS Program position. At the close of the program, this position will revert to competitive class status. Employees occupying positions filled through the HELPS Program will be granted competitive class status without the need to participate in a competitive exam.
