BASIC FUNCTION:
The worker is responsible for the care, safe and economical operation of a light motor vehicle such as a station wagon, pick-up or panel truck. Although the primary function of the position is for transporting materials and supplies among various locations workers are required to perform a variety of routine manual tasks. The work is performed under general supervision in accordance with established policies and procedures. Does related work as required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operates a light motor vehicle in transporting supplies, equipment, mail and personnel to various locations.
- May transport passengers.
- Sorts and delivers mail to a number of locations.
- Prepares and delivers supply orders.
- Performs related manual tasks.
- Checks oil, tires, mileage and gasoline.
- Performs a variety of errands requiring use of automobile or other light motor vehicle.
- Washes and cleans vehicle and suggests needed repairs.
- Good knowledge of the geography and traffic laws of the area.
- Ability to operate an automobile or light delivery truck.
- Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions.
- Willingness to perform routine manual tasks.
- Mechanical aptitude.
- Dependability.
- Courtesy.
- Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
One year of experience in the operation of a light motor vehicle such as pick-up or panel truck, or automobile.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Eligibility for and possession of an appropriate driver’s license issued by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles.
The selected applicant will be subject to a fingerprint supported criminal history background check in accordance with SAVE Legislation effective July 1, 2001.
Vacancies are filled by certified list provided by Albany County Civil Service. Should no certified list be available, candidates appointed to this position will be serving in a provisional appointment in accordance with New York State Civil Service Law. The candidate must successfully complete a competitive examination and be eligible for appointment in accordance with Civil Service Law and the Civil Service Rules for Albany County to obtain a permanent appointment.
