Job Description

Location:    Career & Technical Education - Adult Education Program Campus TBD

Schedule:    Monday-Thursday evenings @ 3 hours per day 

Basic Function:

To teach adult learners (17 years and older) the proper practices, procedures and skills associated with residential and commercial electric trade. To teach electric theory, code, safety, voltage, conduit, switches, control panels, etc. that will lead to entry level employment opportunities.

Responsibilities:

1. To develop in each adult learner an awareness and understanding coupled with the skills and knowledge in the industry.
2. To be responsible for developing and evaluating course plans.
3. To strive to instill in each adult learner safe work habits, the importance of continuation of his/her education and assets of reliability, competence, loyalty and dependability.

Job Qualifications

A. Should meet New York State Adult Education Certification requirements or able to meet requirements. Requirements for the Adult Education certificate are listed on the home page of the NYS Education Department Teaching Certification under ‘Certification Requirements’ in the category of “Other School Service-Adult Education-Job Skills Training Instructor”

B. Seven (7) year of occupational experience or hold an industry related credential is required. Prior high school teaching preferred.
C. Must have strong working knowledge of AC/DC electrical theory and related mathematics.
D. Must have an excellent working knowledge and practical application experience of the N.E.C., and of electrical tools and equipment.
E. Must be proficient in both residential and commercial wiring methods; including conduit and raceway layout, design and an emphasis on bending calculations.
F. Candidate will have demonstrated the ability to provide sound instruction, ability to work in a team environment, work collaboratively with staff and administration.
G. Possess good written and verbal skills.
