Job Description

LOCATION:          Career & Technical Education – Albany Campus & Schoharie Campus

BASIC FUNCTION:

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program is a one-year course that prepares students to respond confidently and effectively in emergency medical situations. This hands-on, fast-paced program combines classroom instruction, laboratory skill practice, and real-world scenarios to develop the knowledge and competencies required for pre-hospital emergency care.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Teach the required courses to cover anatomy & physiology, patient assessment, airway management & ventilation, medical emergencies, trauma management, CPR & AED use, EMS operations, legal & ethical considerations.
  2. Train students how to assess, treat and transport patients experiencing medical and traumatic emergencies while emphasizing teamwork, safety, communication and professionalism.
  3. Instruct students in courses to align with New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) standards, and upon successful completion, students are eligible to take the NYSDOH EMT-Basic (EMT-B) certification exam.
  4. Students who complete the EMT program and pass the NYS EMT-B exam are prepared for entry-level positions and further advancement in health and public safety fields: EMT-Basic, Advanced EMT, Paramedic, Firefighter/EMT, Emergency Room Technician, Patient Care Technician, Ambulance Dispatcher, Emergency Service Coordinator.
  5. To be responsible for developing and evaluating course plans.
  6. To develop in each student an awareness and understanding coupled with the skills and knowledge in the industry. 
  7. Instill in all students’ safe work habits, the importance of lifelong learning and a work ethic that fosters reliability, competence, dependability and satisfaction with their own work.
Job Qualifications
  1. Should meet New York State teaching certification requirements for a Transitional A certificate.  Requirements for the Transitional A certificate are listed on the homepage of the NYS Education Department Teaching Certification under “Certification Requirements” in the category of ‘Career and Technical Teacher–Health Sciences-Emergency Medical Services 7-12’ http://eservices.nysed.gov/teach/certhelp/CertRequirementHelp.do.
  2. High School/GED or Associates degree and higher in Emergency Medical Services.
  3. Two to four years of occupational work experience.
  4. Hold an industry related EMT or Paramedic certification. 
  5. Experience in providing instruction a plus.
  6. Candidates will have demonstrated the ability to provide sound instruction, ability to work in a team environment, work collaboratively with staff and administration.
  7. Possess good written and verbal skills.

The selected applicant will be subject to a fingerprint supported criminal history background check in accordance with SAVE Legislation effective July 1, 2001.
