Job Description

POSITION TITLE:                Teacher-Career Education-Global Fashion (.50 FTE – 1.0 FTE)           

LOCATION:          Career & Technical Education – Albany Campus

BASIC FUNCTION:

Students enrolled in Global Fashion Studies have the opportunity to study creative design and core business concepts while applying them to the world of fashion. Further exploration will include careers in fashion design, production, merchandising, marketing, and technical design.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Teacher will emphasize leadership skills along with creativity, problem-solving, writing, communications, and presentation skills.
  2. Instruction will expose students to state-of-the-art technology skills, cover fashion drawing, hand sewing, basic machine sewing, dye techniques, fabric & garment care, fibers & textiles, clothing construction, pattern making.
  3. Guide students through the development of a fashion trade portfolio showcasing their best work.
  4. Encourage hands-on fashion career exploration in all phases of the course; students may have the opportunity to research and visit top fashion colleges during their studies.
  5. Demonstrate to students how to apply theory and skills through work-based learning opportunities to work with local retailers at area shopping malls to learn visual display and merchandising.
  6. In addition to the classroom, the instructor will be responsible for supervising and evaluating student progress in the work areas.
  7. To be responsible for developing and evaluating course plans.
  8. To develop in each student an awareness and understanding coupled with the skills and knowledge in the industry.
  9. Instill in all students’ safe work habits, the importance of lifelong learning, and a work ethic that fosters reliability, competence, dependability and satisfaction with their own work.
Job Qualifications
  1. Should meet New York State teaching certification requirements for the Transitional A certificate. Requirements for the Transitional A certificate are listed on the homepage of the NYS Education Department Teaching Certification under ‘Certification Requirements’ in the subject area of ‘Career and Technical Teacher-Arts, A/V Technology & Communications-Textile & Design Cluster 7-12’ https://eservices.nysed.gov/teach/certhelp/search-cert-reqs
  2. Two to four years of occupational work experience.
  3. At least a high school diploma.
  4. Experience in providing instruction a plus.
  5. Candidates will have demonstrated the ability to provide sound instruction, ability to work in a team environment, work collaboratively with staff and administration. 
  6. Possess good written and verbal skills.

The selected applicant will be subject to a fingerprint supported criminal history background check in accordance with SAVE Legislation effective July 1, 2001.
